Project Engineer


Job Details

Ubiqutek (branded as RootWave) is pioneering the use of electricity to kill weeds as the only viable and scalable alternative to chemical herbicides. We are looking to recruit an experienced Project Engineer who will work closely with both our energy transfer team and B2B with our agricultural partners to ensure the timely and effective implementation of our technology in their products.


Ensuring partner and end-user needs are understood, working with the technology team to tailor core technology to fit those partner applications, bringing insights back to the technology team and helping to drive the direction of future innovations.

Ensuring the full potential of our technology is realised in our partner's products and doing so by driving the development, prototyping and evaluation of new application embodiment's.

Ensuring RootWave solutions are focused on driving efficacy and value for our partners and the end user.

Liaising with partner's development teams to coordinate delivery of collaborative projects - driving multiple concurrent projects to meet a partner and end-user performance, cost and timing requirements.

Engineering, hands-on development, prototyping, delivery of solutions, prototypes and batch production runs.

Delivering and fulfilling the reporting needs of grant funding bodies e.g. Innovate UK.

Ensuring new designs are cleared, new IP is identified and obtained where possible and confidentiality is not compromised.


> Project and programme management, budget management

> Requirements capture and definition

> Basic electrical and mechanical engineering, design and specification/understanding of specifications and engineering drawings, use of CAD ideally SolidWorks

> Prototype batch production including the use of basic workshop equipment

> Oral and written communication, technical report writing

> Project documentation, Technical Construction File compilation

> Management of design verification and validation in the lab and field, liaising with external test houses, data analysis and interpretation

> Electrical safety and risk management

> Creation of user guides, manuals and other safety labelling

> Familiar with quality systems such as ISO9000

> Beneficial skills and expertise: CE marking, PPAP, contract management


> Personable, dynamic, proactive, flexible individual suited to working in a start-up environment.

> Practical and hands-on, happy to roll sleeves up and get out in the field to understand customer's real-world applications.

> Able to travel internationally to work with partners in other countries.

> Key competencies: collaboration, managing a quality service, organisation, problem-solving, delivering at pace, adaptability.


> Degree in a mechanical or electrical related discipline.

> Formal project management qualification.

> At least 9 years' experience including at least 5 of those years in a highly regulated industry where risk management plays a significant part.

> Beneficial qualifications and experience: agricultural, horticultural or gardening products, high voltage systems and control systems, robotics and machine learning.
