The company are a leading engineering business in the midlands. They provide engineering design, project management, technical consulting and safety compliance services to manufacturing companies across the Food/FMCG/Beverage/Process/pharmaceutical markets

About The Role

As a senior member of the engineering team, you will provide comprehensive packaging system expertise and have responsibility for delivering innovative solutions and projects.

The consultant role requires significant subject matter knowledge and experience in a specific sector of packaging system design, taking a lead role in overseeing the implementation of state-of -the-art packaging equipment and technology, ensuring they meet client expectations within agreed quality, budget and timescales.

What will you do?

  • Take a prominent role in the consultative selling and promotion of the clients services
  • Carry out concept, feasibility and design studies to meet client's capex plans
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering specifications and technical documentation
  • Ensure projects are implemented and delivered from initial conception through to installation, commissioning and final handover
  • Manage project profitability, control of capital expenditure
  • Responsibility for equipment supplier selection, expediting equipment, pre-delivery inspection and testing
  • Carry out performance audits and testing of plant and equipment
  • Compile & issue final documentation and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with legislation including CDM, Machinery Directive & PUWER


  • Degree educated in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical engineering), although candidates with HNC or above together with relevant experience will also be considered
  • Previous system design & project delivery experience from within the FMCG (brewing/food/drink/pharmaceutical) industry, advanced and renewable technologies
  • Knowledge or experience within inventory management, warehouse & distribution solutions
  • Experience in Early Equipment Management, Lean or Six Sigma tools and principles would be a distinct advantage, although not essential
  • IT literate with experience of MS Project and AUTOCAD
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills required
  • Attained or working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • Flexibility to travel internationally, as and when required
  • Driving Licence & car owner (essential)
