A well-established global manufacturer with strong links to the Automotive industry are looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer to be part of their established team at one of the main manufacturing sites based in Birmingham.
Operating on a truly global scale the company has manufacturing sites in the UK, USA, mainland Europe, India and China. This makes them as close as possible to the main vehicle centres around the world ensuring that customers have rapid access to their products.
Scope of the role:
The main scope of the role will be to produce both conceptual and detailed prototype design for internal and customer evaluation. Producing CAD models in Pro-E / Creo and any associated drawings, BOM's and supporting calculations necessary to produce parts. Working within a 'right first time' philosophy and ensuring all design APQP processes are adhered to, including the creation of technical profiles and the coordination of design reviews.
Initially act of customer supplied technical specifications and then correspond with customers to design prototype products that are optimal in terms of efficiency and cost.
Design innovative mechanisms and assemblies to help improve product performance.
Produce supporting calculations for all product designs.
Ensure that APQP processes are adhered to.
All data is handled and stored with due regard to recovery and confidentiality.
Work closely with other departments to ensure that DFM, DFA and strategic low cost sourcing activities are fully supported.
Initiate design reviews to ensure effective use of time.
Work with development and purchasing departments to ensure awareness of latest product developments.
Support and mentor other members of the design team and share ideas and experience.
Investigate alternative technologies and materials to further the design of the product.
Skills and experience:
Degree educated or equivalent within an engineering design discipline.
Highly proficient within the use of Pro-E / Creo CAD packages.
Exposure to the Automotive industry - either engine design, pumps or valves would be an advantage.
Design of rotating parts.
Knowledge of APQP, DFMEA processes.
10 years industry experience.
