Overview:

A world-leading Formula One team is seeking a Lead Composite Design Engineer with extensive experience in chassis composite structures to join their highly driven and innovative engineering department. The successful candidate will take a key role in delivering cutting-edge structural components for one of the most competitive cars on the Formula One grid.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end design and development of composite chassis components, ensuring optimal performance, weight, and reliability.

  • Collaborate closely with Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Structural Analysis, and Production teams to integrate composite solutions into the overall car design.

  • Generate CAD models and detailed drawings using Catia V5/V6 or equivalent, adhering to internal design standards and tight packaging constraints.

  • Own the design release process, including design reviews, DFMEA inputs, and liaising with manufacturing and suppliers.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior composite engineers within the chassis group.

  • Ensure all composite chassis designs meet FIA regulations, safety standards, and quality requirements.

  • Support build and race activities, including trackside support and problem resolution as required.

  • Work under tight timeframes in a fast-paced development cycle typical of Formula One operations.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in composite design engineering, with a strong focus on monocoques and primary structural chassis components in a high-level motorsport environment (Formula 1 experience highly desirable).

  • Proficient in composite laminate design, core materials, bonding, and joining techniques.

  • Advanced 3D CAD modeling and drafting skills; Catia experience preferred.

  • Solid understanding of structural analysis, with the ability to collaborate with FEA and testing teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept through to production in a time-critical environment.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
