Senior Motorsport Powertrain Designer
Location: Ingrave area, Essex
The Opportunity
We are looking for a driven Senior Motorsport Powertrain Designer to join our fast-paced powertrain development team. This role is perfect for someone who loves the challenge of taking complex engineering concepts and turning them into practical, high-performance racing realities. You will spend your days balancing cutting-edge creative design with solid mechanical engineering principles and tight motorsport schedules.
In this role, you will be the bridge between initial concepts and track deployment. Working alongside our race engineers, simulation teams, and manufacturing specialists, you will lead the design of innovative internal combustion powertrain systems, guiding them from the initial 3D CAD model right through to the race grid.
What You Will Do Day-to-Day
  • Lead the engine design: Own the development of powertrain systems, including whole engines, cooling, and lubrication.
  • Master the technical detail: Produce precise 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and detailed product definitions.
  • Validate and optimise performance: Use engineering calculations, GD&T, FEA, and CFD data to maximise component durability.
  • Support the race track: Investigate component failures and implement rapid engineering changes to meet demanding race schedules.
  • Mentor and guide others: Provide technical leadership to junior designers and drive best practices across projects.
About You
You are a highly analytical thinker who understands how high-performance components are actually manufactured. You thrive in a competitive, fast-moving environment, stay calm under tight racing deadlines, and bring the following to the table:
  • Elite industry experience: A deep background in elite motorsport environments like Formula 1, endurance racing, or touring cars.
  • Technical CAD know-how: Advanced proficiency in high-end 3D CAD software like CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, or SolidWorks.
  • Strong manufacturing foundations: Expert knowledge of internal combustion engines, materials, DFMA, and tolerance stack-up.
  • Great leadership skills: The ability to mentor junior engineers, lead complex design reviews, and coordinate cross-functional teams.
What Success Looks Like
When you settle into the role, success will mean delivering lightweight, high-performance powertrain components on time, with minimal reliability hitches on the track. You will become a trusted technical leader across our engineering and race teams, keeping our configuration control airtight and consistently finding innovative ways to shave lap times.
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay: £80,000 per annum
  • Exciting projects: The chance to shape powertrain solutions for competitive, world-class racing series.
  • Growth and leadership: A senior position with direct influence over engineering strategy and junior talent development.
  • A premier environment: A supportive, collaborative team based in a highly accessible engineering hub in Essex.
