A leading UK manufacturer of sustainable consumer products is seeking a Design Engineer to join its expanding Product Development Team. About the Role

The Design Engineer will work collaboratively within a cross-functional Product Team to design, test, and deliver new products and continuous improvement projects that combine performance, user experience, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing sustainable products, components, and systems that meet customer, business, and environmental requirements.

  • Conducting validation testing and supporting prototype and production development.

  • Staying up to date with industry trends, materials, and emerging technologies to drive innovation.

  • Ensuring all designs comply with relevant regulatory, safety, and reliability standards.

  • Producing comprehensive manufacturing specifications, including detailed drawings and engineering BOMs.

  • Delivering design solutions that meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets.

  • Supporting additional product development and engineering activities as required.


Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC/HND/apprenticeship considered).

  • Proven problem-solving ability and a passion for creating sustainable, practical design solutions.

  • Experience in designing with plastic materials.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Competence in Microsoft Office software.

  • Ability to produce clear, detailed technical reports.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a product design or consumer goods environment.

  • Knowledge of machined brass components and mechanical tolerancing.

  • Familiarity with the electrical consumer product sector.
