Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Essex
£55,000 - £62,000 + Benefits

We are working with an established engineering company that develops specialist equipment used within highly demanding technical applications.

The business continues to invest heavily in product development and is now looking to add a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to its R&D team.

This role would suit somebody who enjoys complex engineering challenges and wants to stay close to real product development work. The position offers involvement across concept design, prototyping, testing, problem solving and manufacturing support.

The Role

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will support the development of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical products from concept through to production.

You will work closely with electronics, manufacturing and project teams to develop new products, improve existing designs and support engineering activity across the full development cycle.

Responsibilities include:

• Design and development of mechanical systems, assemblies and precision components.
• Creation of engineering drawings, CAD models and technical documentation.
• Supporting prototype builds, testing activity and product evaluation.
• Investigating design issues and identifying practical engineering improvements.
• Supporting manufacturing teams during new product introduction and engineering changes.
• Working on reliability, quality and continuous product improvement activities.
• Participating in technical reviews and wider engineering discussions.
• Supporting engineering activities, including DFM, FMEA and structured design reviews.
• Assisting with root cause investigation and technical problem solving where required.

The Person

Suitable applicants will typically have:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience within mechanical or electro-mechanical product development.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally using Solid-Works.
• Experience designing precision-engineered components or assemblies.
• A good understanding of structured engineering and product development methods.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
• A practical approach to engineering design and delivery.

This is a strong opportunity to join a well-established engineering business working on technically challenging products within a stable and well-supported development environment.
